personal style

I was working on a project a few months ago and the stylist called to discuss my character’s wardrobe. The team behind the project really liked my personal style, and he said they wanted to model the character’s style after my own. Flattering! (But rare). The stylist, having not yet met me, asked what some would consider a simple question : how would you describe your personal style?

“Can anyone ever really answer that question” I thought?

I knew that I could to some degree at least, but I knew I wanted to think about it. I don’t like being put on the spot. I sat with this question for a bit and knew that on any given day the answer could change. So, I thought about the foundation of my style.  What are the pieces I go back to no matter my age? Who are the people I am always inspired by, no matter my phase?

You can ask a number of my friends and they will tell you that I am a pretty consistent person. It’s a blessing and a curse. I know what I like and I tend to stick to it. I’ve gone through my fair share of style phases throughout the years - but more or less come back to the same foundation once the stint is over. Since leaving my teen years behind, I haven’t strayed much at all and I’m glad for that.

I’m not living with a capsule wardrobe by any means (I mean, I'll be the first to admit how much I love clothes), but I’m in the process of paring down my wardrobe to only consist of classic and quality pieces . I’m shopping with a purpose these days and only adding in items that ‘fill a need’. I’m executing excess, cutting down closet clutter and feeling much lighter as a result. I love clothes, but they aren't everything and they can be overwhelming.

After considering for a bit, I came to the conclusion that my style is fairly classic (after all that, I bet you thought I was going to have some crazy specific answer). My closet consists of lots of denim, white tees, button ups, and classic prints like stripes and polka dots. I tend to gravitate toward neutrals and classic colors like blue and red. If I do wear other colors, I go for natural tonal colors like rust, olive green (but again, it’s rare).

I like a combination of feminine + casual-cool worn in pieces.

If I were describing my current style inspiration: I'd say Alexa Chung, or ‘french girl style meets a Levi's campaign’. My recent obsession is Alessandra Mastronardi’s character in Master of None (and really that whole show in general. Allora)

I’m sure that all of this was keeping you up at night, so I’m glad I could take the time to lay out my personal style for you.  Or at least chronicle it for future Savannah to look back on.
